To the citizens of Montgomery County--
I have had the privilege of serving as your Montgomery County Commissioner since January of 2007. I am seeking your support for re-election because I have worked hard during my first term to focus on those areas that will allow our county and region to achieve our maximum potential.
My work has focused on our Montgomery County Mission: To improve the health, safety and welfare of our citizens, the strength of our economy, and the quality of our environment. Two areas I have prioritized include:
Creating good jobs for Montgomery County--Along with my colleagues, we have crafted an economic development strategy to guide our efforts at job creation. This strategy targets our resources to those areas where job creation is already occurring, and hold continued potential for job growth--aerospace, logistics and distribution, strong urban core, and the I-75 corridor. These strategies represent our economic strengths, and my number one priority has been-- and will be-- to expand and retain good-paying jobs which will enable residents of Montgomery County to support their families and provide them with a high quality of life. I believe in this plan. I helped to create it. I am working to implement it every day and I will continue to do so!
Rightsizing county government--Over the last two years, we have reduced Montgomery County's General Fund budget by almost 18 million dollars. We accomplished this by using strategies such as effectively managing jail costs, and reducing our overall county workforce by more than 300 positions during the same timeframe. We are continuing to invest in economic development with the goal of strengthening our tax base. This work, in cooperation with our countywide elected officials and administration, has required a focus on our core strengths and is the result of many, many honest conversations within county government to ensure balancing cost savings with continued service to taxpayers.
